Applications open for FuelAL 2026 summer intern experience
April 10 2026
AUBURN, Ala.- The City of Auburn’s Economic Development Department is partnering with the City of Opelika to provide FuelAL programming this summer for local college interns thanks to a grant from FuelAL, in partnership with Innovate Alabama — a talent attraction and retention program of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama (EDPA).
Auburn-Opelika has been selected to participate in the initiative, which aims to showcase the state’s unique community assets. The program connects college students and interns with Alabama’s industries, culture and communities through immersive experiences focusing on opportunities available outside the workplace. Participants will learn how to serve, socialize and develop in the Auburn-Opelika community and will gain insight into what makes the area a good professional home.
“FuelAL is about connection — connecting students to opportunity, industry to talent and communities to their future workforce,” said Estes Hughes, vice president of innovation and talent at EDPA.
In addition to summer community programming, FuelAL includes a local school-year leadership cohort through Anchor Auburn, which selects student leaders for community-based engagement during the academic year.
This will mark Auburn’s fourth year offering a program for local interns through a partnership with FuelAL.
“The FuelAL Summer Intern Program is an exciting way for students to discover everything the Auburn–Opelika area has to offer as they prepare for their future," said Trevor Cook, Auburn’s Workforce Development Director. “The program connects students directly with local employers, leaders, and organizations, helping them build meaningful relationships, explore career possibilities, and see how they can truly thrive in this community after graduation."
Those interested in participating in the program may apply online now through May 31. For more information, visit the EDPA website or contact Trevor Cook at tcook@auburnal.gov.
