UPDATE: Auburn Police respond to report of shots fired

UPDATE (March 3, 2026):
AUBURN, Ala. - Melvin Sabas Alexander Hernandez Davila was developed as a suspect and, after further investigation, felony arrest warrants were obtained for attempted murder and robbery first degree. Melvin Sabas Alexander Hernandez Davila has not been apprehended at this time and is wanted on the outstanding warrants. Developments in the investigation confirmed that the suspect and victim were previously acquainted, and the incident was not random. Hernandez Davila, who often goes by “Alex,” was last seen with a dark beard, dressed in a dark colored hoodie and dark colored pants.
The victim in this case remains hospitalized and is in stable condition.
This investigation is ongoing, and police are actively searching for Hernandez Davila. Hernandez Davila should be considered armed and dangerous and, if observed, should not be approached.

AUBURN, Ala. - On March 2, 2026, around 2:18 p.m., Auburn Police received a report of shots fired at an apartment complex in the 500 block of Shelton Mill Road. Responding officers located a male suffering from a gunshot wound at an apartment located within the complex.
The gunshot victim was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional for medical treatment. Nearby schools were placed in a secure state as a precautionary measure. This measure has since been lifted as investigators believe the suspect fled the area in a vehicle.
Auburn Police remain on the scene actively investigating. The public is asked to continue to avoid the area until advised otherwise.
