Macon man arrested for identity theft, theft of property

AUBURN, Ala. - On Dec. 13, 2025, Auburn Police, with assistance from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia, arrested Joshua Samuels Hughes, age 32, from Macon, Georgia, on felony warrants charging him with identity theft and theft of property first degree.
The arrest stems from Auburn Police receiving a report involving forged checks on Jan. 13, 2025. A victim reported that checks were posted for mail at a location in Auburn in Jan. 2025. The checks were then stolen, altered and deposited in a bank account associated with an unknown suspect.
Joshua Samuels Hughes was developed as a suspect and, after further investigation, arrest warrants for identity theft and theft of property first degree were obtained. Hughes was located by Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies in Georgia, and he was arrested in obedience to the outstanding warrants.
Hughes was detained in the Monroe County Jail in Georgia, and after waiving extradition, he was transported to the Auburn Police Department on Dec. 13th, 2025. The arrest warrants were executed, and Hughes was transported to the Lee County Jail and held on a $10,000 bond.
All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
