18-year-old arrested for assault

October 17 2025

AUBURN, Ala. - On Oct. 16, 2025, Auburn Police, with assistance from the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles, arrested an 18-year-old (name withheld due to the age of the arrestee on the date the crime occurred) from Lafayette, Alabama, for assault first degree. This arrest follows the previous arrest of a 17-year-old juvenile, also from Lafayette, Alabama, who was charged with assault first degree on July 9, 2025.

The arrest stems from an investigation that was initiated on May 25, 2025. Auburn Police Department officers responded to the 1600 block of Opelika Road in reference to a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, police located a crime scene and evidence of gunfire.

Auburn Police were notified of a 20-year-old male who had arrived at a local hospital and was being treated for a gunshot wound that resulted from the incident on Opelika Road. The victim received treatment for serious, but non-life-threatening injuries and was released from hospital care.

A 17-year-old juvenile was developed as a suspect, leading to the arrest of this subject on July 9. During the investigation, it was determined that a second suspect was also involved. Evidentiary developments identified an 18-year-old person of interest as the additional suspect in October, and an arrest warrant for assault first degree was obtained. The Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles officers located the 18-year-old suspect in Chambers County, Alabama on Oct. 16 and arrested the suspect in obedience to the warrant.

Both suspects were charged as adults and transported to the Lee County Jail ($50,000 bond).

All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
