August 12 2025
AUBURN, Ala.- FuelAL Auburn-Opelika has wrapped up its second year with another successful summer program, bringing together nearly 40 university students. These students spent the summer interning in the Auburn-Opelika area and participating in a series of curated events designed to help them connect, learn and grow as they explored post-graduation career opportunities in the region.
The summer kicked off with an engaging orientation event at Botanic in Opelika where interns were welcomed with a garden dinner, an overview of the summer schedule and the opportunity to hear from distinguished speakers while connecting with peers and mentors.
A highlight of the program was a visit to the Tony and Libba Rane Culinary Science Center. Interns took part in a private cooking class with a renowned chef and later enjoyed a rooftop networking reception overlooking the Auburn skyline.
The students also toured two local industries: Shinhwa Auto in Auburn and Bonnie Plants in Opelika. These behind-the-scenes visits offered students an inside look at regional manufacturing operations and valuable networking time with industry executives.
Another standout experience was a private tour of the Jay and Susie Gogue Performing Arts Center at Auburn University. Students explored the backstage, amphitheater and pit areas while learning about the center’s mission and impact. The evening concluded with a private dinner at Amsterdam Café.
Athletic and recreational opportunities were also part of the program. Interns received an exclusive tour of Auburn University's new Woltosz Football Performance Center and took part in a fun and competitive Pickleball Clinic and Tournament at the Opelika Sportsplex.
To conclude the program, FuelAL Auburn-Opelika hosted a graduation ceremony in downtown Opelika where interns celebrated their summer achievements alongside their supervisors and mentors.
“We are always looking for ways to keep young talent in our market, and FuelAL has been the perfect opportunity for us to showcase the engaging and meaningful experiences available right here Auburn and Opelika," said Auburn Workforce Development Director Trevor Cook. "Thanks to this year's class for their involvement, and we hope to continue this program in the future."
