Jasper man arrested after police pursuit

AUBURN, Ala. – On Feb. 2, 2025, Auburn Police arrested La Darrious Cortez Burpo, age 38, from Jasper, Alabama on charges of attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and driving under the influence.

Auburn Police initially received a call reporting a reckless driver. While officers were responding, police received a second call reporting a vehicle crash near the intersection of North Donahue Drive and Shug Jordan Parkway. A vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene.

Police encountered the vehicle, which displayed damage from the crash and matched the description associated with both calls. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, and the suspect vehicle fled, initiating a pursuit.

The suspect vehicle continued to flee, driving in a reckless manner and violating numerous traffic laws. The suspect vehicle collided with another vehicle near the intersection of East University Drive and Cricket Lane.

The pursuit continued, eventually ending when the suspect vehicle was disabled near the 9000 block of Lee Road 146. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was apprehended and identified as La Darrious Cortez Burpo.

Burpo was arrested for attempting to elude a law enforcement officer and driving under the influence. There were no injuries associated with the vehicle crashes and additional charges are possible.

Burpo was transported to the Lee County Jail and held on a $6,500 bond.

All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
