AUBURN, Ala.- The City of Auburn is pleased to announce the upcoming opening of the gymnasium at the new Lake Wilmore Recreation Center. The Auburn Youth Basketball program will tip off the season at Lake Wilmore on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025.

“We are thrilled to welcome our basketball program into Lake Wilmore and debut a portion of this new facility while staff works with the contractor on a final checklist for the rest of the campus,” said Mayor Ron Anders. “Lake Wilmore brings much needed additional space for our basketball teams to play and practice, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this highly anticipated addition with the community.”

Other elements of Lake Wilmore, such as the fitness center, pool and pickleball courts, will open in phases as these components of the project near completion. The City of Auburn continues to coordinate with Bailey Harris Construction to ensure the delivery of a facility that will be a source of pride for the citizens, staff and Auburn community. This phased approach allows the City to refine the facility while incorporating necessary and time-sensitive programming.

When complete, Lake Wilmore will feature two full-sized basketball courts, an indoor walking track, a fitness room and activity rooms, four multipurpose athletic fields, 18 covered pickleball courts, a mountain bike trail and a pool with two zones — a zero-entry area ideal for water aerobics and a lap pool — which will be covered and heated to promote year-round use.
