Auburn, Tuscaloosa mayors continue annual Iron Bowl wager tradition

November 25 2024

AUBURN, Ala.- Auburn Mayor Ron Anders and Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox will continue their annual tradition of an Iron Bowl wager to benefit local charities.

Auburn University and The University of Alabama will face off at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 30. If Auburn wins, Mayor Maddox will make a $100 donation to Mercy Medical Ministry and Clinic. If Alabama wins, Anders will make a $100 donation to the Tuscaloosa Pre-K Initiative.

Former Auburn Mayor Bill Ham and Tuscaloosa Mayor Maddox first made this friendly wager in 2005. Since 2005, Auburn has won the Iron Bowl seven times, and Alabama has won 12 times.

“Each year, I look forward to this tradition that raises awareness about organizations doing amazing work,” Anders said. “Regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s game, this friendly competition is a win-win for both of our communities. I wish Mayor Maddox luck, and War Eagle!”
