Huntsville man arrested for identity theft

Auburn, Ala. - On Aug. 8, 2024, Auburn Police, with assistance from the Huntsville Police Department, arrested Contrell Deon Dunklin, age 21, from Huntsville, Alabama, on felony warrants charging him with three counts of identity theft.

The arrest stems from Auburn Police receiving a report involving fraudulent checks on March 29, 2023. Police met with a complainant who reported that checks were mailed to the intended recipients from a location in Auburn during a time period between March 23 and March 27, 2023. While in transit, the checks were stolen, altered and used to conduct fraudulent transactions by an unknown suspect.

Contrell Deon Dunklin was developed as a suspect, and after further investigation, arrest warrants for identity theft were obtained. Dunklin was located by the Huntsville Police Department on Aug. 8, 2024, and he was arrested in obedience to the warrants.

Dunklin was transported to the Auburn Police Department and later transported to the Lee County Jail to be held on a $15,000 bond.

All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
