Auburn Police arrest two on gambling charges

Auburn, Ala. - On May 14, 2024, Auburn Police, arrested Rifat Hassan, age 30, from Auburn, AL, on warrants charging him conspiracy to promote gambling and possession of a gambling device.
The arrest stems from Auburn Police initiating an investigation involving an illegal gambling operation located at a business in the 2400 block of East Glenn Avenue. On May 8, Auburn Police detectives executed a search warrant at the business.
During the search, multiple gambling machines were recovered. Robert Levett, age 62, from Auburn, AL, was the sole employee operating the business at the time of the search warrant, and he was arrested for conspiracy to promote gambling.
During the investigation, currency was seized from the gambling machines, and detectives recovered evidence showing that the machines were used to yield illegal profits. Rifat Hassan was identified as the business owner and beneficiary of the illegal proceeds generated from the gambling operation.
Arrest warrants were obtained, and on May 14, Auburn Police arrested Rifat Hassan for charges associated with the gambling operation. Hassan was transported to the Lee County Jail and held on a $600 bond.
