After the meeting: Auburn City Council highlights from April 2, 2024
April 03 2024
AUBURN, Ala.- The Auburn City Council took the following actions at its first regular meeting in April:
Renewed City and school taxes to be collected by Lee County. On an annual basis, the City Council is required to authorize the Lee County Revenue Commissioner to collect existing City and school taxes, including the City’s 5 mills tax, the 11 mills school tax and the 5 mills school tax. These are not new taxes nor tax increases, but only a renewal of existing taxes.
Approved the 2024 Annual Action Plan for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG). The council approved the CDBG 2024 Annual Action Plan and CDBG Program Year 2024 funding recommendations. The City plans to use this year’s CDBG allocation to fund housing and community development activities that address the needs of low- to moderate-income Auburn residents.
The council also:
- Appointed Daniel Bush and Nick Hayes to serve on the Historic Preservation Commission.
- Appointed David Hinson to serve on the Downtown Design Review Committee.
- Appointed Marcia Boosinger to serve on the Auburn Public Library Board.
- Appointed Doris Ann Hutchinson to serve on the Cemetery Advisory Board.
