UPDATE: Downtown event, street closure changes

UPDATE, Nov. 30: Due to the forecasted rain, some of this weekend’s events have been canceled including the Downtown Auburn Holiday Fair & Open House and the Jingle Jog 5K & Santa Stroll. There will be no street closures or events on Friday or Saturday, Dec. 1 and 2.

The Loveliest Village Holiday Market originally scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2, has been moved to Sunday, Dec. 3, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will be held in the Gay Street Parking Lot, which will close at 5 a.m. on Sunday. Cars remaining in the lot after 5 a.m. will be subject to towing.

The Auburn Christmas Parade will be held as planned on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. Downtown streets along the parade route will close at 1 p.m. Cars parked along the route will be allowed to leave until 1:30 p.m., after which they will be unable to leave until the parade ends around 3 p.m. There will be no parking on Tichenor Avenue to allow the parade ample space to pass through. Vehicles remaining on Tichenor after 1:30 p.m. will be subject to towing.

Nov. 21: AUBURN, Ala.- Downtown streets and the Gay Street Parking Lot will close for upcoming holiday events, including:

Friday, Dec. 1: Downtown Auburn Holiday Fair & Open House

The Downtown Merchants Association's Downtown Auburn Holiday Fair & Open House will be held in downtown Auburn from 5-8 p.m. East Magnolia Avenue between College and Gay streets will be closed from 5:15-8:30 p.m. Public Safety will begin closing on-street parking spaces along Magnolia at 4 p.m. Downtown visitors are encouraged to find alternate parking during the event.

Saturday, Dec. 2: Loveliest Village Holiday Market

The Downtown Merchants Association's Loveliest Village Holiday Market will be held in the Gay Street Parking Lot from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The parking lot will close at 5 a.m. and reopen after the event ends. Vehicles remaining in the lot after 5 a.m. will be subject to towing.

Saturday, Dec. 2: Jingle Jog 5K & Santa Stroll

Auburn Parks and Recreation's Jingle Jog 5K & Santa Stroll will begin at 6:30 a.m. in downtown Auburn. Downtown streets will close at 5:30 a.m. and reopen around 8:30 a.m. College Street will be closed from Thach to Tichenor avenues and Magnolia Avenue will be closed from Gay to Wright streets. Vehicles parked along the street will be unable to leave until the streets have reopened.

Sunday, Dec. 3: Auburn Christmas Parade

The Downtown Merchants Association's Auburn Christmas Parade will be held in downtown Auburn at 2 p.m. Downtown streets will close at 1 p.m. Cars parked along the parade route will be allowed to leave until 1:30 p.m., after which they will be unable to leave until the parade ends around 3 p.m. There will be no parking on Tichenor Avenue to allow the parade ample space to pass through. Vehicles remaining on Tichenor after 1:30 p.m. will be subject to towing.

The parade will begin at the intersection of Thach Avenue and South College Street, travel east on Thach Avenue to Gay Street, north to Tichenor Avenue, west to College Street and south back to Thach Avenue.
