Auburn, Ala. - Auburn Fire Department is proud to announce the promotion of Fire Captain Matthew Cain to the rank of battalion chief, effective Aug. 20, 2023.

Fire Captain Matthew Cain has been promoted to the rank of battalion chief (BC). He joined the department as a student firefighter in 2006 and was hired as a career firefighter in 2008. Battalion Chief Cain promoted to sergeant in 2013, lieutenant in 2014 and captain in 2020. He graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor’s degree in wildlife science in 2013 and has been an on-shift training officer for Auburn Fire Department since 2014. Though originally from Harvest, AL, he has been an Auburn resident since 2004. BC Cain and his wife, Caroline, are the proud parents to their daughter, Colbie.

“We are fortunate to have quality leadership within the Auburn Fire Department to serve the citizens and visitors of our community," said Fire Chief John Lankford. "This promotion is well-deserved and I look forward to seeing Battalion Chief Cain excel as he takes on this new leadership role.”
