After the meeting: Auburn City Council highlights from Feb. 7, 2023

AUBURN, Ala.- The Auburn City Council took the following actions at its first February meeting:

Approved a contract for governmental affairs representation services. The City Council approved a contract with Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, LLP for professional governmental affairs representation services in the amount of $7,500 per month. The company will assist the City and act as a representative for the City in governmental affairs issues at the state level.

Amended the City Code to reflect legislative changes regarding the police jurisdiction. The council amended Chapters 1, 2, 13 and 22 of the Code of the City of Auburn to update regulations regarding police jurisdictions in the City to reflect Alabama Act 2021-297. The final impacts of the Act included freezing municipal police jurisdictions at their January 2021 boundaries so that they would no longer grow with annexations. Police jurisdictions are areas external to the city limits in which the municipal police have jurisdiction, while planning jurisdictions are areas external to the city limits in which the City has authority over subdivisions of property.

Approved a date change for two council meetings in 2023. The council authorized a date change for two of its regular meetings in 2023. The March 7 council meeting was moved to March 14 due to Auburn City Schools’ spring break week, and the July 4 regular meeting was moved to July 11, due to the Independence Day holiday.
