UPDATE: South College Street lane closure expected through February

UPDATE, Jan. 18: The sidewalk on the west side of South College Street between Samford Avenue and Roosevelt Drive will be closed beginning tomorrow, Jan. 19, through next Friday, Jan. 27, as crews replace the sidewalk. Pedestrians are advised to take alternate routes until construction is complete. Outside lanes will continue to be closed to accommodate equipment associated with this work.
UPDATE, Jan. 4: The contractor for the South College Street, Samford Avenue, South Gay Street improvements project will begin work on the west side of College Street later this week. One southbound lane will be closed during work, which will take place between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. over the next two months.
The sidewalk between Roosevelt Drive and Samford Avenue will be narrowed but will remain open during curb and gutter work. Once the new curb and gutter has been constructed, the sidewalk will be closed to the public while it is replaced. This release will be updated once a date for the sidewalk replacement has been set.
Nov. 30, 2022: AUBURN, Ala.- One lane of South College Street between Samford and Miller Avenues will be closed over the next several weeks as work continues on the South College Street, Samford Avenue, South Gay Street improvements project. This phase of the project will include widening College Street and installing a new sidewalk, a brick retaining wall and pedestrian lighting.
The outside northbound lane in front of Tazikis, Mountain High Outfitters and BurgerFi will be closed during work, which is expected to begin on Monday, Dec. 5. This portion of the project is expected to last six weeks, pending weather and other unforeseen circumstances. Work will take place on weekdays between approximately 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. The sidewalk in front of these businesses will be narrowed but will remain open during construction. All businesses in the area will remain accessible during work.
Traffic control measures will be in place to help drivers navigate the closures. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area.
