AUBURN, Ala.- The Auburn City Council took the following actions at its July 19, 2022, meeting:
Authorized the sale of general obligation warrants to finance capital improvement projects. The council approved an agreement with The Frazer Lanier Company to sell general obligation warrants that will be issued by the City to finance major upcoming projects. These funds will primarily be used for the expansion of the Auburn Soccer Complex, construction of Will Buechner Parkway that will connect Richland Road and Martin Luther King Drive, and the new Environmental Services and Public Works Complex. The funds will also be used to refinance other general obligation warrants, resulting in substantial savings in interest costs.
Approved a tax abatement for Seohan Auto USA related to its $13.5M expansion. The council approved a tax abatement for Seohan Auto USA, a Tier 1 automotive supplier to Hyundai and Kia. The company is investing $13.5 million in its two Auburn facilities, allowing Seohan to begin producing components for hybrid and electric vehicles. The company expects to create 12 new jobs through this expansion.
Authorized printing postcards to inform registered voters about the upcoming 2022 Municipal Election. The council approved the cost to print and mail postcards reminding all of Auburn's registered voters of their ward and polling place ahead of the Aug. 23 Municipal Election. With post-census redistricting now in place, voters may not live in the same ward that they did during the 2018 Municipal Election, and some polling places have changed. The postcards will let voters know their current ward and where to vote on Aug. 23.
The council also:
- Filled two vacancies on the Auburn Planning Commission and the Greenspace Advisory Board.
- Approved an amendment to the professional services agreement for the Auburn Soccer Complex expansion.
- Approved alcohol beverage licenses for The Sound Kitchen and Liquor Locker.
