UPDATE: Gay Street expected to reopen today

UPDATE, June 24- The contractor is wrapping up work on the storm drain installation on Gay Street between Reese and Samford avenues, and Gay Street is expected to reopen to two-way traffic this evening. Temporary and shifting lane closures are still anticipated on Gay Street as the contractor constructs storm inlets. Motorists are advised to continue using caution in the area.

UPDATE, June 22- Due to utility conflicts, storm drain work along Gay Street between Reese and Samford avenues is expected to continue through Friday, July 1. During this time, the roadway will be open to local traffic only. Traffic control measures will be in place to assist with directing traffic.

UPDATE, June 21- Gay Street is currently closed to through traffic near the intersection of Reese Avenue due to utility conflicts and other unforeseen issues. The contractor is working to resolve these issues and hopes to have the road open later this week.

All residences and businesses in the area are still accessible as the contractor works to accommodate residents and business patrons. Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and to take alternate routes.

UPDATE, June 16- Gay Street remains closed as the contractor works to complete repairs to safely open the road. Gay Street is expected to reopen to through traffic on June 16.

AUBURN, Ala.- Gay Street is currently closed to through traffic at the intersection of Reese Avenue while crews work to repair the roadway. The stone used to backfill the roadway during work to install storm pipe in the area has washed out during the heavy rains. Crews are working to repair the roadway and reopen Gay Street as quickly as possible. The road is expected to reopen tomorrow, June 15.

Motorists are advised to use caution in the area and to take alternate routes while the road is closed.
