Fiber expansion project underway through August

June 07 2022

AUBURN, Ala.- Work on the 2022 Fiber Expansion Project began on Monday, continuing the City's efforts to expand the fiber network to Auburn's signalized intersections. The contractor will install conduit, fiber optic cable and other elements in the following areas:

  • East Glenn Avenue from Summer Hill to North Dean roads.
  • North Dean Road from East Glenn Avenue to Annalue Drive.
  • East University Drive from South Gay Street to Moores Mill Road.

Intermittent lane closures are possible throughout the project. Work is expected to take place Monday-Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. through the end of August, barring any unforeseen circumstances or material delays.

The 2022 Fiber Expansion Project aims to connect all signalized intersections to the City's Traffic Control Center, allowing staff to monitor intersections and receive immediate notifications about potential issues. The control center also helps staff synchronize and coordinate traffic signal timings to improve traffic flow.
