AUBURN, Ala.- The next stage of construction for the ongoing improvements to Opelika Road will begin on Wednesday, April 27. The contractor is beginning construction on new landscaped medians, which is expected to last approximately eight weeks.
Opelika Road between Gentry Drive and Saugahatchee Road will be reduced to the outside eastbound and the outside westbound lanes. The center turn lane will be closed except at the entrance/exit to Niffer's and Midtown Auburn. All business in the area will remain accessible, and access will be limited to right-in, right-out turns only except where turn lanes are planned.
Impacted businesses include: Bombay Grill, Caliber Home Loans, Matthew Slaughter State Farm, Mike's Merchandise, NAPA Auto Parts, Niffer's, Tiger Paint & Body, U-Haul, U-Save Car Rental and all business in Midtown Auburn (Absolute Therapy, Affirmation, Amour Boutique, Auburn Med Aesthetics, Auburn Plaza, Blade & Barrel Axe Co., Born & Raised Studio, Build-A-Bride, Cerulean, F45, Halo Salon, Lily Jane Boutique, Tanology, The Yoga Room).
The City of Auburn appreciates everyone’s patience as unexpected delays have occurred during this project. Motorists are advised to use caution as the contractor completes the final phase of work, which is currently expected to finish this summer. The City will release updates should additional delays occur due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
